In Asia, the market is a staple in just about every community.
People go to markets to buy everything from fresh vegetables to gardening supplies; from snack foods to clothing. And, traveling around Vietnam, I had the chance to visit my fair share of markets.
Markets in the cities were packed and chaotic.
Markets in the countryside were colorful — but still chaotic.
All of them were full of character.
There were even floating markets at Ha Long Bay!
Regardless of which kind they are — city, countryside, or floating — markets in Vietnam are an important aspect of daily life and give you a unique glimpse into the culture of this country.
So if you head to Vietnam anytime soon, be sure to check out the local markets!

I’ve been to Vietnam several times and I still look forward to going back there again. Your photos remind me of how much I love it there. The markets are crazy crazy crazy with aggressive vendors, but I couldn’t stay away LOL

we just arrived Luang Prabang and we are definitely sad we left Vietnam already! Such a beautiful place to be in! And the best part is their food!

Your photos remind me of the local markets in Hong Kong! The fresh cut seafood and poultry (displaying guts and all) at some stalls weren’t for the squeamish.

They are all so vibrant and colourful. Really makes for a great photo gallery. Love the flower market pic the best. It baffles me how those ladies can sit like that for long periods of time. It looks so uncomfortable.
I’m so with you on the sitting!! Some of us tried it out – Western bodies just aren’t built for squatting like that, no matter how skinny they are!
I didn’t expect to love Vietnam as much as I did, and the markets played a huge part in winning me over. Such a sensory experience! These photos capture that beautifully.

And I certainly saw some chaotic ones! The huge local market in Hue was SO INSANE and packed with people that I couldn’t even take many photos!

They are CRAZY in SEA! But so fun to explore (so long as you aren’t too claustrophobic!).
